Ioannis K. Mantzouranis

Ioannis K. Mantzouranis was born in 1952 in Athens. He is a founding member, manager and partner of the law firm under the name “I.K. Mantzouranis – I.N.Maganiaris & Associates: Law Firm”.
He specializes in the fields of criminal and public law and has represented defendants as well as civil parties in almost all highly publicized criminal and administrative proceedings, which have been the focus of public interest in Greece in the past three decades.
At the same time, Ioannis K. Mantzouranis has been very active in the political affairs of Greece. Inevitably his involvement has had as a consequence an adventurous life, full of experiences.
During the dictatorship, he participated in the Resistance, especially as a member of the university students’ movement against the dictators. In 1973, he was a member of the Law School Occupation Committee. He was arrested, tortured and imprisoned in the Police Interrogating Centre (EAT/ESA), and was forcibly drafted into the army, together with other members of the Student Resistance.
Once the uprising against the dictatorship took place, Ioannis K. Mantzouranis had to go underground and in May 1974 he fled to West Germany, where he sought political asylum and worked as a freelancer in the Greek broadcast of DEUTSCHE WELLE in West Germany.
Ioannis K. Mantzouranis was a founding member of the political party “Panhellenic Socialist Movement” (PASOK) and was elected alternate member of the PASOK Central Committee at the 1st PASOK Congress. From 1982 – 87, he served as Deputy Secretary of the International Relations Committee and from November 1982 – January 1984 he was Secretary to the Cabinet. He became Secretary General of the Ministry of the Presidency from January 1984 – August 1985 and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, Andreas Papandreou, on issues of Public Administration from August 1985 – February 1987.
He is a member of the Athens Bar Association (DSA), attorney at the Supreme Court and the Council of State, and member of the Hellenic Criminal Bar Association and of the Association of Greek Constitutionalists.
